Solid Starts: worth the subscription if I'm doing BLW + purees combo?

babyledcurious First-time mom Posted May 25, 2026 3 replies

6mo old, starting solids next week. Pediatrician said BLW is fine, but I want the safety net of purees on busy days. Is Solid Starts worth $79/yr if I'm not pure-BLW?

Yes, even if you're 50/50. The safety guidance per food (size, cut, age window) is what you're paying for, not the BLW dogma. It saved my sanity for cherries.

Verified: Solid Starts' First Foods database has 200+ foods with age windows, cut guidance, allergy info and choking risk notes. We rank it 83/100 — best-in-class for feeding safety reference. The downsides are search UX and limited recipe content.

From a peds standpoint: the food preparation guidance in Solid Starts aligns well with current AAP guidance. The choking risk visual cues are particularly useful for new caregivers.
