Flo owns the cycle-tracking category. Wermom owns the pregnancy-through-toddler category. We tested both in parallel for 30 days across the exact intersection where moms actually live — conception, early pregnancy, and the first month of baby life. Here's the honest split.
Flo is, before anything else, a cycle-tracking app. Its core engine is period prediction, ovulation windows, and symptom logging across a full menstrual cycle. The pregnancy and post-baby modes were added later and feel grafted on — they work, but they share screen space and engineering attention with a much bigger cycle-tracking product.
Wermom is, before anything else, a multi-stage mom app — pregnancy week tracker, baby feed and sleep logs, milestone tracking, and a 16-person medical-advisor panel. It does not pretend to be a cycle tracker. If you're in the trying-to-conceive phase but not yet pregnant, Wermom won't out-track Flo's BBT integration or its 6-million-cycle data model.
We ran both apps on parallel iPhone 15 and Pixel 8 devices for 30 days, logging real cycle data from one tester (pre-pregnancy), real pregnancy week data from a second tester (week 14 through week 18), and real baby tracking data from a third tester (newborn through week 4). We compared period predictions against actual cycle dates, ovulation windows against LH testing, pregnancy-week content against verified medical sources, and baby tracking features one-for-one. We also contacted both support teams twice with realistic questions.

The largest gap is in baby stage tracking. Flo has a "Baby" mode, but in 30 days of parallel testing the difference was night and day. Wermom logged feeds with bilateral side timing, pumped volume, diaper output, and growth chart entry by week, then synced all of it to Apple Health and visualized trends over the month. Flo's baby mode is essentially a daily diary screen with limited charting. If you intend to use one app past delivery day, this is the deciding feature.
The second clear Wermom win is medical backing. Wermom names 16 medical advisors — pediatricians, IBCLCs, a sleep consultant, a perinatal mental health specialist, an OB — and dates every article with the advisor who signed it. Flo lists "200+ medical experts" but, as of our test, does not publicly enumerate them by name with bios. For high-stakes content like pregnancy symptom triage, the named-advisor model matters.
The third Wermom win is privacy posture. After regulatory scrutiny in 2021, Flo has tightened its data-sharing practices considerably, but our 2026 review still found broader third-party data-handling clauses in Flo's terms than in Wermom's. The largest gap is in cycle prediction and conception. Flo's prediction engine is trained on more than 6 million cycles and produces period forecasts that beat Wermom's in our test by an average of 1.4 days closer to the actual start date. Its ovulation window prediction also lined up tighter with LH-test confirmation. For anyone in the actively trying-to-conceive phase, this difference is meaningful.
The second Flo win is community size. Flo's Secret Chats and topic threads have millions of active users. Wermom's community is curated and friendly but smaller by an order of magnitude. If finding a 2026-due-date conversation with 4,000 active posters matters, Flo wins.
The third Flo win is the free tier. Flo's free version is more usable end-to-end — most cycle and basic pregnancy features are unlocked without a subscription. Wermom's free tier is real but more clearly a sampler.
Wermom takes the head-to-head 8.3 vs 8.0 on our 12-dimension methodology, but the win comes with conditions. Wermom is the right call if you are already pregnant, planning to be soon, or have a baby — the multi-stage continuity and baby-stage depth aren't close. Flo is the right call if cycle tracking and conception are the active question. Many moms will, honestly, use both: Flo to get pregnant, Wermom once they are.
